Landing in Houston Wiped Out? A Nurse’s Guide to Travel Hydration

Rahab Njuguna, RNAugust 23, 2026 6 min read

A long flight into Bush Intercontinental or Hobby does more than scramble your clock. Dry cabin air, skipped meals, and a humid Houston welcome can leave you flat before the meeting or the wedding even starts. Here is how I talk clients through it.

What actually happens on the way here

Two things get mixed together. Jet lag is a sleep-timing problem: your body clock is still on the city you left. The CDC’s traveler guidance on jet lag describes it as a mismatch between your usual daily rhythm and a new time zone, and it can affect mood, focus, and how you feel physically for a few days. Travel fatigue is different. That is the dry cabin, the sitting, the skipped water, and the long walk to baggage claim.

MedlinePlus notes that airplane air is dry, so drinking water in flight and skipping heavy alcohol and caffeine helps you arrive in better shape. Their jet lag prevention page is a clear, practical walkthrough. The Sleep Foundation also separates jet lag from ordinary travel fatigue and points out that cabin air can leave you dehydrated even when your clock is only off by an hour or two. Their jet lag overview is worth reading before a long-haul into Houston.

Everyday ways to settle in after you land

  • Drink water on the plane and again in the terminal. Thirst is a late signal.
  • Keep alcohol and extra caffeine light until you have eaten and slept.
  • Get outside light on Houston time the day you arrive, then keep the first night’s bedtime close to local time.
  • Eat a normal meal rather than skipping dinner because you “are not hungry yet.”
  • Give important meetings a buffer if you crossed several time zones. A day of ordinary rest still comes first.

A wellness IV does not treat, cure, or prevent jet lag. It does not reset your body clock. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, fainting, or a fever after travel, that is not a drip visit. Seek medical care or call 911.

Where a mobile visit fits

For the ordinary, non-emergency version of landing wrung out, IV hydration is simply a fast, comfortable way to put fluids and electrolytes back, because they go straight into the bloodstream. Clients book it at a hotel near Bush, a downtown suite, a home in Katy or The Woodlands, or an office the morning after a red-eye. Essential Hydration is the straightforward choice. Energy Reset is the one people pick when the trip has also flattened their afternoon.

Because we come to you, you do not have to get back in a car. Rahab, our registered nurse, arrives with a sealed kit, reviews your intake, and stays with you for a typical 30 to 60 minute visit. Same-day windows open more often than people expect, especially on weekday mornings after Sunday and Monday arrivals.

Questions & Answers

Can an IV prevent or cure jet lag?

No. Jet lag is a body-clock problem. A wellness IV can help you replenish fluids after a dry flight. It does not treat, cure, or prevent jet lag, and it is not a substitute for sleep, light, and time.

Do you come to hotels near Bush Intercontinental or Hobby?

Yes. Houston hotels, homes, and offices are in the core service area. Concierge travel in that area is included in the listed price.

How soon after landing can I book?

Same-day visits are often available. Eat something, hydrate normally, and complete the health intake before the nurse arrives.
